Cette lettre datée du 24 juin 2006, jour de la Nativité de Saint Jean Baptiste, est adressée par le Recteur Majeur aux Confrères salésiens. Elle exprime la profonde tristesse et la gratitude à l’égard du Père Valentin de Pablo, Conseiller général pour la Région Afrique – Madagascar, dont le décès soudain a pris la communauté par surprise. Le Recteur Majeur remercie les Confrères pour leurs nombreux témoignages de soutien et de partage de cette douleur.
La publication des Actes, avec les documents qui en font partie, rend officielles les orientations prises et marque le point de départ de la période des six années 2008 – 2014. Le thème du CG26 est unitaire, même s’il est articulé en pôles thématiques. A première vue, il peut sembler que le CG26 ait traité de cinq sujets différents; en réalité il s’agit d’un unique thème : Ie programme de vie spirituelle et apostolique de Don Bosco. La devise “Da mihi animas, caetera tolle” peut être pleinement comprise si I’on connaît la vie et l’œuvre de Don Bosco, notre Fondateur et Père bien-aimé. Attento alle sfide e alle nuove frontiere individuate dal CG26, il Progetto Europa intende impegnare tutta la Congregazione nel rafforzamento del carisma salesiano in Europa, soprattutto mediante un profondo rinnovamento spirituale e pastorale dei confratelli e delle comunità, al fine di continuare il progetto di Don Bosco a favore dei giovani, specialmente i più poveri. Esso è stato preparato dal Rettor Maggiore e dal Consiglio Generale, a cui il CG26 ha affidato tale compito, dopo avere coinvolto gli Ispettori di Europa con i loro Consigli ispettoriali. The theme of the GC26 is a single one even though it is set out in key issues. At first sight it might seem that the GC26 dealt with five different questions; in realty it is just the one theme: Don Bosco’s programme of spiritual and apostolic life. The motto “Da mihi animas, cetera tolle” can be fully understood from a knowledge of the life and work of our beloved Father and Founder Don Bosco.
