During the recent months of June and July, the Grand Rector has presided over the plenary sessions of the General Council, where various aspects of the life of the provinces in the present day were examined. Among these topics, one that particularly stands out, linked to our ongoing renewal, is “Salesian spirituality and ecclesial Movements.” This topic presents an opportunity for reflection that can deepen our identity and, in some cases, steer us away from deviations. The Central Salesian Archive contains numerous eyewitness reports of Don Bosco’s words and deeds, particularly in the form of chronicles and memoirs. I drew heavily on these documents for previous articles which saw the light of day in the pages of this Journal. I shall do the same for the present article.

El modelo educativo-pastoral de Don Bosco, iniciado en Turín en 1841, evolucionó desde simples actividades catequísticas y recreativas hasta la consolidación de una obra con sede permanente en la Casa del Sr. Pinardi en Valdocco en 1846. A lo largo de los años, Don Bosco expandió su labor, adquiriendo la Casa Pinardi en 1850 y desarrollando instalaciones educativas más amplias.

Esiste una profonda differenza tra il modo di vedere nostro e quello di quanti studiavano D. Bosco anni or sono. Attorno agli anni ’50 ancora si discuteva sul grande punto: fu D. Bosco un pedagogista o fu soltanto un educatore? fu un teorico o fu soltanto un pratico? Oggi la realtà è diversa. titolo di saggio vorrei proporre oggi alcuni interrogativi: 1) che cosa significò D. Bosco nella geografia umana in movimento del suo tempo? 2) che cosa significò in una storia di trasformazioni sociali? 3) quale funzione ebbe nelle grandi trasformazioni spirituali (o, se si vuole, religiose e culturali)?
