Don Bosco, nelle Costituzioni che ci ha lasciato, non dedica alle missioni che un solo articolo di poche righe, ma, nelle sue intenzioni e nella storia salesiana, il tema ha occupato un posto
di un’importanza capitale. In pochi decenni la Congregazione è diventata una delle prime nel campo missionario, cominciando dall’America Latina, passando poi all’Asia e finalmente
all’Africa.

Le phénomène religieux au Zaïre a fait l’objet d’un certain nombre d’études historiques. Un grand nombre d’entre elles cherchent à connaître l’affrontement entre société et conceptions traditionnelles d’une part et religions étrangères d’autre part. Ainsi des phénomènes comme le Kimbanguisme, le Kitawala, la Jamaa et d’autres mouvements semblables sont assez bien connus.

L’ essai traite du développement de l’œuvre salésienne au Congo, à partir des trois centres principaux (Sakania, Kafubu, Kipushya) où les FMA ont apporté le charisme de Don Bosco et de Maria Mazzarello depuis 1926, fondant des écoles, des internats, des orphelinats pour soutenir les enfants locaux pauvres et abandonnés.
Pietro Braido in his essay (final contribution of the Congress) retraces the central points treated by the various scholars and lists some themes to be explored for future research such as, for example, reflections related to theology or historical events made by the Saint at the “beginnings” of his life, Don Bosco writer and editor for the masses, major publication of critical texts of the sources.
