Their intention was to express gratitude to His Holiness for his support during the centenary celebrations of ’88, particularly for the Apostolic Brief concerning the special “Year of Grace” and his commitment to visit Turin in September 1988. The Central Salesian Archive contains numerous eyewitness reports of Don Bosco’s words and deeds, particularly in the form of chronicles and memoirs. I drew heavily on these documents for previous articles which saw the light of day in the pages of this Journal. I shall do the same for the present article.

He highlights the growing appeal from the southern hemisphere, particularly evident through initiatives like Project Africa and the establishment of young foundations in Polynesia, Melanesia, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.
