La notizia principale che ho da darvi è l’elezione fatta del nuovo Prefetto Generale della nostra Pia Società. Il vuoto lasciato attorno a me dalla perdita dell’indimenticabile Don Belmonte, di sempre cara memoria, è grande, e non era assolutamente possibile lasciare per lungo tempo scoperto quel posto, che egli con tanta competenza teneva, senza che le cose nostre ne soffrissero gravi danni.
Da varie case salesiane giunsero domande per il Rettor Maggiore riguardo alle relazioni che vi possono essere fra la Pia Società di S. Francesco di Sales e l’istituto delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, entrambi fondati dal venerato Padre D. Bosco.

This study will look at how the Salesian brother’s vocation appears in official Salesian writings while Don Bosco was founding the Salesian Congregation, and at how the Congregation has theologically reflected on that vocation as part of its renewal of its Constitutions. It will then examine how this identity has been applied.
Joseph Boenzi writes of the many times that the figure of St. Francis de Sales enters into the life and ministry of Don Bosco. The final word may never be written on why Don Bosco chose Francis de Sales as the patron of his Congregation but What is Salesian in Don Bosco? throws light on the subject.

Lo studio che viene proposto prende in esame “quanto” e “come” la Congregazione salesiana, a partire dal Concilio Vaticano II a oggi, ha riflettuto sulla natura della sua missione educativa e pastorale tra i giovani. Punto di partenza di questa indagine è il CG19 celebratosi nella primavera del 1965 a lavori conciliari ancora in corso. Negli Atti del CG la Congregazione esprime in modo netto la propria identità educativa consolidata dalla tradizione salesiana e sintetizzabile nello slogan formare “buoni cristiani e onesti cittadini”. While preparing pilgrimages and spiritual exercises in Annecy and the neighborhood, I discovered reliable sources among the German and Dutch Oblates of St Francis de Sales. As a consequence of keeping contact with various participants, they invited the undersigned to take part in the annual meetings of their Arbeitsgemeinschaft (“study group”) in Eichstätt, Germany.
This study of Don Bosco in a perspective of organizational virtues is intended to be in a circular hermeneutic relation with the present period of transformation in which the Salesians of Don Bosco find themselves.
The theme of this reflection, entitled: “Encounter of the Salesian Charism: South Asian Context, is self-explanatory. Drawing out its implications, the topic can be articulated in three focal points, implied in the very title, that is, “Salesian charism,” “South Asia,” and finally, the issue of the “Encounter…”.
