Roger Burggraeve – “Reason and reasonableness as pillars of education. An ethical updating of Don Bosco’s legacy” in “Forum salesiano”

There are two well-known perspectives in talking about the pedagogy of Don Bosco: on the one hand, the binary idea of a repressive versus a preventive system and, on the other, the triple concept of ‘kindness, reason, religion’ (amorevolezza, ragione, religione).

Pascual Chavez Villanueva – “You who seek the Lord; look to the rock from which you were hewn” (Is 51,1). Presentation of the Interamerica Region” in “Acts of the General Council of the Salesian Society of St John Bosco”

The letter recounts the author’s recent travels to Sri Lanka, India, China, and South Africa, reflecting on the diverse experiences encountered and expressing gratitude for God’s blessings. It emphasizes the importance of Asia and Africa for the Congregation’s future and calls for faithful inculturation of Don Bosco’s charism in these regions. Paul Wynants – “Writing the history of a religious teaching institute: guidelines for research, sources and methods (19th and 20th Centuries)” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

In the framework of such a short introduction, I would like to recall some basic principles, obvious enough to most specialists. The first half of my presentation will be historiographical: by tracing the way in which a congregation’s past has been perceived over the course of time, I will point out themes for research that seem of interest to me.

Pascual Chavez Villanueva – “”But who do you say that I am?” (Mk 8,28). Looking at Christ through the eyes of Don Bosco” in “Acts of the Superior Council of the Salesian Society”

The letter, written during the Christmas season, reflects on the significance of the Incarnation and the closeness of God to humanity through Jesus Christ. It acknowledges the joy of the Christmas message while also recognizing the challenges and hardships faced by Mary, Joseph, and ultimately Jesus himself.

Continue reading “Michele Rua – “Il Capitolo generale X. Francis J. Moloney – “Salesians beyond 2000” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

In the article, Fr. Frank looks at the images of God and Community and poses questions that young people in Western Societies are facing on the threshold of the Third Millennium. He moves from the contemporary to the scriptural, and looks at the figure of Jesus and questions of discipleship as posed in the New Testament. What is the significance of discipleship in the Gospels? How does this significance speak to our reality? to our vocation as Christians, and as Salesians? These are the questions of the middle portion of Fr. Moloney’ s reflections.

Miguel Angel García Morcuende – “Personal accompaniment in the salesian educative-pastoral plan” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

In many a document the Church has defined the nature, goal and elements of youth ministry and has included it neatly in the methods of evangelization in its different stages. We can proudly say that the Salesian educative-pastoral plan has been, and continues to be, in line with the Church’s evangelizing mission.

Arthur Lenti – “Community and mission. Spiritual insights and salesian religious life in Don Bosco’s Constitutions” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

The present article is not concerned with the new constitutions. No comparative study will be attempted, nor any reference will be made to them. This would be carrying coal to Newcastle. I shall instead attempt simply to identify and briefly discuss some of the spiritual insights and principles for religious life and action which Don Bosco embodied in his constitutions.

Sergio Todeschini – “I Salesiani a Sondrio (1897-1905).

Emilio Alberich – “Catechesi” in “Progetto Educativo Pastorale”
