While preparing pilgrimages and spiritual exercises in Annecy and the neighborhood, I discovered reliable sources among the German and Dutch Oblates of St Francis de Sales. As a consequence of keeping contact with various participants, they invited the undersigned to take part in the annual meetings of their Arbeitsgemeinschaft (“study group”) in Eichstätt, Germany.
In a very unique way, the women of the Gospels whose stories Francis cites are noteworthy in that they, to varying extents, enjoyed a personal relationship with Jesus himself, and thus with God. Their understanding of sacred love is therefore particularly profound.

Le Memorie dell’Oratorio sono, tra le opere di san Giovanni Bosco (1815-1888), una delle più personali, forse il libro più ricco di contenuti e di orientamenti preventivi che egli abbia scritto. Composte tra 1873 e 1875, in un momento di grande fervore operativo, riflettono sul cammino percorso per definirne il senso e focalizzare l’attenzione dei discepoli sulla identità di un’istituzione orientata alla salvezza dei giovani, pronta ad aprirsi in prospettiva mondiale. San Giovanni Bosco, iniziò il suo ministero nelle periferie torinesi tra poveri giovani, bisognosi di tutto. Non si limitò a dar loro pane e istruzione. Propose fin dal principio “un metodo di vivere breve e facile, ma sufficiente” per diventare “la consolazione dei parenti, l’onore della patria, buoni cittadini in terra per essere poi un giorno fortunati abitatori del cielo”. This study of Don Bosco in a perspective of organizational virtues is intended to be in a circular hermeneutic relation with the present period of transformation in which the Salesians of Don Bosco find themselves.
In many a document the Church has defined the nature, goal and elements of youth ministry and has included it neatly in the methods of evangelization in its different stages. We can proudly say that the Salesian educative-pastoral plan has been, and continues to be, in line with the Church’s evangelizing mission.
The topic of professional formation within the Salesian world is to be read in the light of the early experience of Don Bosco. One will not understand either the vision or the value of Salesian professional training as a whole if one overlooks this fundamental phase which Don Bosco lived and was able to help germinate and blossom.
The following four-part article has as its objective a particular aspect of Don Bosco’s charism: the spiritual accompaniment of the young. This theme, which is very relevant for today, is significant since it is fundamental to Don Bosco’s educational system and it is a characteristic of us Salesians, as accompaniers of the young.

The Salesians, who have been applying the Preventive System since the time of their Don Bosco, have understood it mostly as a method of education. However, when we re-read the Preventive System from the perspective of rights, we realize that it is a Child Rights friendly system. We see ingrained in it many of the Child Rights.
The theme of this reflection, entitled: “Encounter of the Salesian Charism: South Asian Context, is self-explanatory. Drawing out its implications, the topic can be articulated in three focal points, implied in the very title, that is, “Salesian charism,” “South Asia,” and finally, the issue of the “Encounter…”.
In the course of the exposition so far it often appeared that one of the doubtless objectives of assistance, consists in preventing evil, disorders, and especially what Don Bosco summarily calls “offending God.”
MaryJo Leddy explained that in her act of accompaniment with many of the young adults assisting in her ministry to the refugees, she found herself taking a lead from them. She has found a voice of conscience and concern in this generation. She is touched by their thirst and hunger for holiness and authenticity.
