Come sapete, Lettori carissimi, io compii il 30° anno di vita pubblica, che, coi 37 di vita privata,
sono 67 anni. È oramai tempo che io mandi altri da voi, e che mi metta sul serio a pensare ai fatti miei. Ma prima di darvi l’ultimo addio, non posso fare a meno di dirvi due parole d’affetto, due parole sulla mia origine e vita. Sarò breve.

Coll’aiuto della Divina Provvidenza già due volte poté tenersi il Capitolo Generale della pia nostra Società di S. Francesco di Sales: primieramente nell’autunno del 1877 ed ultimamente nel 1880. Dopo il primo Capitolo una parte delle materie che furono in esse trattate venne pubblicata col titolo di Deliberazioni: di cui penso che ogni Casa abbia avuto sufficente conoscenza. Ma pel buon andamento delle nostre Case rimaneva ancora a discutere accuratamente un’altra parte delle materie fin d’allora prese in considerazione, e questo si fece nel secondo Capitolo.
Vengono presentati “I Colloqui”, attraverso tre tabelle sintetiche che riportano in ordine cronologico le seguenti informazioni:
Questo studio biografico su S. Giovanni Bosco vide la luce nel 1937 per il cinquantenario dalla morte del glorioso Fondatore dei Salesiani. Lo studio monografico fin qui condotto ha permesso di osservare da vicino un “frammento” della vita della società di S. Francesco di Sales e cioè il continuo progresso dell’ispettoria austro-ungarica. Nel 1887 erano stati 2 i salesiani ad iniziare l’apostolato a Trento; nel 1905, l’anno della fondazione dell’ispettoria degli Angeli Custodi, erano 107. Quando nel 1919 avvenne la sua divisione nell’ispettoria polacca e in quella tedesco-ungarica, il numero dei soci si aggirava sui 415, quasi il 10% di tutti i membri della società. Gli Atti di questo volume contengono le ricerche presentate nel corso del 6° Convegno internazionale sulla storia dell’Opera Salesiana, organizzato dall’Associazione Cultori di Storia Salesiana (ACSSA), con il sostegno dell’Istituto Storico Salesiano (ISS).
Il volume contiene gli atti del Convegno internazionale organizzato dall’Associazione dei Cultori di Storia Salesiana (ACSSA) in occasione del Bicentenario della nascita di s. Giovanni Bosco (1815-2015) sulla Percezione della figura di don Bosco all’esterno dell’opera salesiana (SDB e FMA) dal 1879 al 1965.

Don Bosco was a man who dreamed dreams. His dreams became reality and are still becoming reality. A lot of people think that he had a dream that is connected with the Korean province. The dream concerns the evangelization of Northeast Asia. If we look at the historical records that we have in our possession, the first Salesian confrere to set foot on Korean soil was the “Don Bosco of the East”, the Eastern Interpretation of Don Bosco’s Preventive System, the Venerable, Fr. Vincenzo Cimatti. ln 1934, he went to Manchuria to give a concert. At the same time he visited Korea, giving a concert in four cities. After that Fr. Cimatti himself as Provincial began to form missionaries in Japan to send to Korea. The first Salesians to enter Korea were the fruits of these endeavors. The aim of the Seminar is to present the beginnings of the Salesian Presence in East Asia and Oceania. The Philippines, as part of this Salesian Region, has also its beginnings and origins from the first Salesian Presence in East Asia: China. For in the two times that the Salesians started to root themselves in the Philippines, they came from China to negotiate and to concretise what they negotiated. Up to the present day, officially the Salesians of Vietnam has had a history of over 52 years. A history that is long, as well as epic and fruitful enough to draw admiration from many, as well as attention of those who are interested in Salesian history, as we are here in these days. Unluckily, because of the social and political turmoil of the country, most of the documents had been destroyed or lost, which certainly renders the writing down this history become a very challenging task. it is my task to present to you a short historical account of the first period of this glorious history. The beginning of the Salesian Work in Vetnam, of which, in using biblical expression, I would dare to give a subtitle: The Patriarchal story and the Exodus. The account that my presentation is dealing with covers a time-span of about 25 years, roughly from 1930 to 1955. The purpose of this work is to show the process of the first presence of the Salesians in East Timor, between 1927 and 1929. It is a meteoric presence for it did not last two whole years and it is also intriguing due to questions that rose. In fact, how is it possible that the Salesians decided to abandon the Island shortly after a year and a half, when the Salesians had accepted the administration of a school of arts and crafts existing already in Dili (capital of the territory) – after having celebrated a contract with the Bishop of Macau, Josè da Costa Nunes, for a sexennium – what important reasons led the Major Superiors to take such a decision before the bilateral contract celebrated in January 1927 come to an end?
