La lettera riguarda un’udienza privata concessa dal Papa Benedetto XV a Paolo Albera. Lo zelo fa concepire a D. Bosco il desiderio di fornire ad ogni parrocchia abili cantori. Egli gusta ed ama ardentemente la musica, eppure ha una predilezione pel canto gregoriano. Mi è dolce ricordare i loro sforzi, coronati da splendidi risultati, per insegnare colla musica sacra il canto prettamente ecclesiastico, sia in Italia come in Francia. Don Michele Rua si compiace nel pensiero che i Salesiani furono considerati da vari Vescovi e ragguardevoli personaggi quali strumenti per rialzare il decoro delle sacre funzioni, e furono sempre chiamati a cantare nelle più grandi solennità. Lo zelo dei maestri in varie case si comunicò agli alunni, che presero a coltivare il canto gregoriano con non minor gusto ed impegno che la musica. Tornò dolce il vedere che il Congresso trasse a Torino il fior fiore dei Cooperatori e delle pie Cooperatrici! Essi vennero da lontani paesi, portati unicamente dal desiderio di stringere sempre più i vincoli di carità che li uniscono all’umile Società Salesiana, sempre meglio intendersi sul modo di aiutare le Opere che si hanno tra mano e renderle ognor più feconde per la salvezza delle anime. Onorarono il Congresso collo splendore della loro altissima dignità tre Eminentissimi Cardinali di S. Chiesa e oltre a trenta Eccellentissimi Arcivescovi e Vescovi, i quali accesero tutti i cuori d’un santo entusiasmo colla loro autorevole ed eloquentissima parola. In Nairobi, the Superiors and Councillors of the English-speaking Circumscriptions of Africa gathered to assess the implementation of GC24 and evaluate the process of evangelization within our communities firsthand. When the letter is received, the Rector Major will already be on the threshold of GC24. On June 23rd of last year, our Rector Major, Fr. Egidio Vigano, the 7th successor of Don Bosco, passed away and returned to God. His peaceful passing occurred at the Generalate, where he was attended by his brothers Frs. Angelo and Francesco, and surrounded by the prayers and affection of fellow confreres and sisters, as well as the esteem of many friends. The Holy Father personally conveyed words of comfort and his blessing to Fr. Vigano the day before his passing.
The funeral services served as a poignant tribute to Fr. Vigano, highlighting the gratitude of confreres and members of the Salesian Family for his unwavering guidance and leadership. They underscored his esteemed reputation in both civil and ecclesiastical circles, attributed to his theological acumen and collaborative spirit.
