Filippo Crispolti – Don Bosco

Arthur Lenti – “Saint with a human face: Don Bosco in Father Giulio Barberis original chronicle” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

The Central Salesian Archive contains numerous eyewitness reports of Don Bosco’s words and deeds, particularly in the form of chronicles and memoirs. I drew heavily on these documents for previous articles which saw the light of day in the pages of this Journal. I shall do the same for the present article.

Paul Wynants – “Writing the history of a religious teaching institute: guidelines for research, sources and methods (19th and 20th Centuries)” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

In the framework of such a short introduction, I would like to recall some basic principles, obvious enough to most specialists. The first half of my presentation will be historiographical: by tracing the way in which a congregation’s past has been perceived over the course of time, I will point out themes for research that seem of interest to me.

Arthur Lenti – “The founding and early expansion of the salesian work in the San Francisco area from Archival Documents, Part II” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

As in the earlier article, so also in the present one, besides transcribing and translating pertinent archival documents (chiefly letters), I will try to provide an essential historical framework designed to make the sequence intelligible.

Lucas Van Looy – “Bringing Don Bosco into the mainstream. Lecture in San Francisco, February 24, 1997” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

Congratulations on your hundred years of faithful work with and for Don Bosco, with and for young people and with and for so many good people of this great country, to bring the message of the Lord to the young in their own context.

Juan Edmundo Vecchi – “Centennial celebration of the salesian presence in the United States of America. Homily in San Francisco, February 2, 1997” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

For the beginning of our centennial celebration we are gathered together here as a family in the place where the Salesians established their first presence in the United States of America. When we compare our present- day situation with that at the moment of our arrival we find much for which we must be grateful to God.

John Rasor – “The concept of Secularity in salesian documents” in “Journal of Salesian Studies”

This article examines the theological meaning of the term “secularity” in Salesian official documents. It begins with a survey of the meanings of secularity in recent theological dictionaries, then shows how these meanings are present in reflection by the sons of Don Bosco.
