At the time of writing this letter, the GC24 has been distributed to all the Provinces. Following the initial communication during the Chapter and subsequent transmissions by participants, the official edition has been disseminated through Acts in various languages. This edition includes documents in line with the Constitutions, as well as supplementary texts for a deeper understanding of the event and the guidelines provided. In September 2015, when a big group of refugees came to Austria, Salesians Don Bosco have started a new project, with the goal to offer German courses, the counseling and the recreation offer for the young refugees. For that purpose, it was necessary to gather a big number of volunteers in a short period of time. This project “Don Bosco for Refugees” counts today (June 2018) 50 Volunteers that come one or more times a week and about 50 young refugees come to the German courses. Del giovane Beato riminese Alberto Marvelli si sono sempre sottolineati l’impegno nel sociale, la carità verso i poveri, la vita di preghiera, mentre è rimasto un po’ in ombra l’impegno educativo. Eppure, questo ha assorbito una parte non trascurabile del suo tempo e delle sue energie. On June 23rd of last year, our Rector Major, Fr. Egidio Vigano, the 7th successor of Don Bosco, passed away and returned to God. His peaceful passing occurred at the Generalate, where he was attended by his brothers Frs. Angelo and Francesco, and surrounded by the prayers and affection of fellow confreres and sisters, as well as the esteem of many friends. The Holy Father personally conveyed words of comfort and his blessing to Fr. Vigano the day before his passing.
The funeral services served as a poignant tribute to Fr. Vigano, highlighting the gratitude of confreres and members of the Salesian Family for his unwavering guidance and leadership. They underscored his esteemed reputation in both civil and ecclesiastical circles, attributed to his theological acumen and collaborative spirit. Upon returning from Ethiopia, the Rector ;ajor expresses joy at witnessing a vibrant part of the extensive Project-Africa, filled with hope. He is impressed by the dedication of novices and young Ethiopian colleagues in preserving Don Bosco’s legacy in the country. Gratitude is extended to God and the committed missionaries for their faithful and enthusiastic service. The Rector Major anticipates that the recent experiences of hope will be further reinforced by two upcoming events: the Special Synod of African Bishops and the beatification of Sister Maddalena Caterina Morano, a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians.
