Father Stefano Maggio, who knew Blessed Philip Rinaldi personally and was Central Ecclesiastical Assistant to the Don Bosco Volunteers, has made a significant contribution to the body of work on Father Rinaldi, especially in the years leading up to his beatification in 1990. The book, entitled ‘The Spirit of Don Bosco in the Heart of Blessed Don Rinaldi’, is an anthology of Father Rinaldi’s writings and lectures during his time as General Prefect (1901-1922) and Rector Major (1922-1931). The anthology includes selections from lectures to various groups, such as the Daughters of Mary, the theology students at the Salesian Study House in Foglizzo, the Zealots of Mary Help of Christians (forerunners of the Don Bosco Volunteers), the Salesian Sisters, circular letters to the Salesians of Don Bosco, along with personal letters. Father Maggio enriches this collection with an original study on Father Rinaldi’s spirituality, mainly derived from his personal correspondence.
