Egidio Viganò,Juan Edmundo Vecchi – “Letter of the Rector Major” in “Acts of the Superior Council of the salesian society”

On June 23rd of last year, our Rector Major, Fr. Egidio Vigano, the 7th successor of Don Bosco, passed away and returned to God. His peaceful passing occurred at the Generalate, where he was attended by his brothers Frs. Angelo and Francesco, and surrounded by the prayers and affection of fellow confreres and sisters, as well as the esteem of many friends. The Holy Father personally conveyed words of comfort and his blessing to Fr. Vigano the day before his passing.

The funeral services served as a poignant tribute to Fr. Vigano, highlighting the gratitude of confreres and members of the Salesian Family for his unwavering guidance and leadership. They underscored his esteemed reputation in both civil and ecclesiastical circles, attributed to his theological acumen and collaborative spirit.

The ceremonies also illuminated the deep sense of communion fostered by the Congregation worldwide through its communities and works. Messages of condolence, reflecting on Fr. Vigano’s character and contributions, poured in from all corners of the globe, spanning from influential figures to ordinary individuals.
